Authors’s Jjourney to Legal Profession


Author was born in Chennai in a relatively big Muslim conservative family of Tamil Nadu. Being born as a girl in a Muslim conservative family her decision to join the legal profession was opposed by many. She took a bold and firm step to join the legal profession. She had to battle many odds to join the legal profession. She saw many problems in her childhood where her family was deprived of their rights and saw her father suffer without any legal help from others, which made her think whether she could do a degree in law. Her father with great hardwork and effort could hardly afford to send her to school. But Farhath’s determination made her father to think. She completed her BL at the age of 23 and, at the age of 28 Farhath got married. Farhath was initially itself very bold and courageous in all the activities at home and at school, she was persuaded by her father to join the legal profession and help poor people in need of legal aid and legal help like them.

She did her B.L. from Ambedkar Law College and started practicing as an Advocate at Chennai. She practiced in all the types of cases such as family cases, Criminal Cases & Civil Cases. Soon she had gained in confidence in the legal field.

She took up the task for getting legal help to the poor people and the people who were in need of immediate legal help. She would go to the slums and to the under privileged people and helped them in solving their family problems, social problems and getting them their basic necessities.

Encouraged by her success, she has now widened her area and she is now who ever calls her for help – all of which have been well received.

Farhath received her setback in 2001 when her father had a Heart attack and her education was disturbed in between.

However, Farhath’s determination to succeed enabled her to

restart her education, and complete her B.L. to become a lawyer, the first in her family.

A role model for other women

As a Female Muslim Advocate, Farhath provides an inspirational example to the women of her community. She is determined to help others directly by offering Legal help, Legal advice and other needs.

In just a few years Farhath Begum went from a bold women to a budding Advocate, helping and educating the poor people about their rights with her consultancy, Bharath Legal Consultancy.

Not only does Farhath provide an inspirational example for her community, but she is also determined to help others to follow in her footsteps, offering advice and guidance and even giving training to join the legal profession.

Author has given her helping hand to may to solve their family and other problems from her legal profession, and a further many are on their way to get justice. News of Farhath’s success has spread across the region, and now she is approached by poor and socially backward women who are coming to her from far away places for her advice and she helps them free of cost for economically backward and poor people. Farhath’s efforts to help young women also extend to the local prison, where she has worked to help the women in need of legal help. Standing out from the crowd as a Muslim Women Lawyer, Farhath’s efforts to create an atmosphere of independence among women set her apart as a distinct person, as do her determination in picking up the social issues of the public and putting her effort and hard work in solving them and helping them in the right moment of need.

Having received help from local support networks, Farhath is anxious to give back to her community. She has employed many people and she trains and aids more women in her field, directly helping several women.

Through her efforts to motivate other young women, provide them with the opportunity to re-start their Life more confidently and boldly by standing up to their issues and facing the society.

Community involvement and family

Community involvement is extremely important to Farhath, and the majority of young people she guides are from extremely poor backgrounds.


Plans for the future

Farhath has been putting her own income into the aid of women in need. Not only does she mean to help them come up in their life but also wants to create self confidence in women from the underdeveloped society to face their issues more firmly and confidently.
